Superyacht Challenge Antigua 2025

Yachting insiders agree — Antigua is the place to be this March

The largest yachts, the bluest water, and the thrill of competition. That sounds like a recipe for the perfect Caribbean weekend.

Superyacht Challenge Antigua will take place March 5–9, 2025, in the crystal waters surrounding this island paradise. This regatta is a pure expression of yachting passion — no corporate sponsors, no branded trophy. It’s just crews of the finest superyachts coming together in the spirit of the sport and enjoying each other’s camaraderie on shore in the evenings.

March is a popular time for Global Air Charters clients to visit islands in the Caribbean. The weather is lovely — it’s too early for the threat of tropical storms, and there is little rainfall.

If you stay current on our Empty Legs postings, you can find discounted flights to several popular island destinations. Besides Antigua, we often touch down in Turks and Caicos, St. Lucia, and Grenada.

Contact our flight coordinators about chartering a private jet to Antigua this spring. Here’s how we would spend a perfect weekend there.

Nelson’s Dockyard

super yachts in Nelson's Dockyard, the english harbor of AntiguaThe Superyacht Challenge’s home base is Nelson’s Dockyard in English Harbor, the world’s only continuously working Georgian-era dockyard. Built by the British Navy in the early 1700s, the structures eventually fell into disrepair after the Brits abandoned them in the 1780s. Today, the Nelson’s Dockyard complex is fully restored and home to ruins and museums — and the most stunning watercraft anchored in its marina.

Every Friday night you can join the Rum in the Ruins tour. You’ll learn all about the history and archaeology of this historic site, along with an overview of sugarcane farming in the West Indies. As the name might suggest, you’ll have a couple of tropical cocktails along the way.

Seaside Accommodations

If you want to stay right in English Harbor, we highly recommend staying at The Admiral’s Inn. These charming suites are housed in 18th-century buildings overlooking the harbor where the superyachts will be moored. There are two excellent restaurants on-site and a short boat shuttle is always available to a pristine swimming beach in the outer harbor.

The Copper and Lumber Store Hotel is another great option, situated directly in Nelson’s Dockyard. This boutique hotel is full of old-world charm, and they host a seafood feast on Friday nights.

Beach Days

Beaches of AntiguaA phrase you’ll often hear about Antigua is that it’s home to 365 beaches, one for every day of the year. We’re not sure about the exact count, but we haven’t yet exhausted our list of beaches to visit there and haven’t been let down by a single one.

The most popular beach is found at Half Moon Bay, and it’s a stunner. If you go, get lunch at Smiling Harry’s. We also love Pigeon Point Beach, which is a short walk away from English Harbor. It’s home to Catherine’s Café, a French-influenced bistro just steps from the sand. We’d go just for a bottle of rosé and a tarte au citron.

Galleon Beach is situated at the outlet of English Harbor. If you go, take along comfortable shoes and take a half-mile hike up the Lookout Trail to Shirley Heights Lookout. From this incredible vista, you’ll have a panorama of the southern coast and glimpse the neighboring islands of Guadeloupe and Montserrat across the ocean.
