A Stylish Arrival

Private jet travelers to the Preakness Stakes have several airport options near Pimlico Race Course. Our flight coordinators will ensure a seamless arrival and coordinate with VIP services and ground transfers.

The most common point of arrival is Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (KBWI). The airport is near Pimlico Race Course and has excellent facilities for private jet fliers. We’ve also arrived at Martin State Airport (KMTN), a satellite airfield that often caters to executive traffic.

Weekend at the Races

The city of Baltimore throws the Preakness Festival for a week leading up to the race. There are concerts, parades, and various events Horse racing at Preakness Stakesthroughout the city. We recommend arriving in Baltimore for a long weekend as there will be parties galore.

Friday (May 16) at Pimlico is the running of the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, the premier race for 3-year-old fillies. Preakness day proper is Saturday (May 17), with the iconic race of the nation’s best 3-year-old male thoroughbreds. There are several events on the racing grounds leading up to the main races.

Tickets are still available for reserved seating experiences, premium dining, and even private suites.

What to See

Baltimore has more to offer than the races. This city is teeming with activities for a variety of interests.

  • After the races, the Inner Harbor is the place to be. This historic seaport offers museums, shops, and waterfront dining. Because it’s Baltimore, there’s seafood here, too (we like the ultra-modern Thames Street Oyster House).Architectural building in Baltimore
  • If you want to get out of town, try the famous Maryland Crab Trail. We think the J.M. Clayton Company tour in Cambridge is also worth the drive from Baltimore — especially when you take the scenic route through the Eastern Shore.
  • History buffs should spend time touring Fort McHenry National Monument, where the U.S. national anthem was born. Then take a stroll and see the final resting place of Edgar Allan Poe at Westminster Hall and Burying Ground.

Where to Eat

Baltimore is more than just seafood. It’s a superb dining city that’s constantly reinventing their take on Mid-Atlantic hospitality.

  • Woodberry Kitchen is the hottest restaurant in Baltimore right now. This farm-to-table bistro serves big spreads with local ingredients. Go with a group and watch your table get loaded down with seasonal dishes.
  • The Prime Rib is our favorite upscale steakhouse in Baltimore. You naturally must get the prime rib, but you should start with the crab cakes, lobster bisque, and some cold cocktails.
  • Charleston delivers a modern, chef-driven take on classic Southern flavors. Chef Cindy Wolf highlights local produce through complex, artistic presentations. Reservations are required and coveted.
  • The Capital Grille is the place to be if you want to have dinner but mostly sip wine. This restaurant has one of the deepest wine lists we’ve ever seen.
