Time to polish your whitewalls and hit the PCH — August is all about classic cars in Monterey, California
California has always been home to the sweetest rides. What better place to put the top down, turn the radio up, and feel the breeze in your hair?
The waning days of summer offer incredible opportunities for motor enthusiasts. Monterey Car Week is set to roll up to the Central Coast on August 9–18, 2024. It’s become one of the top automotive events in the world, drawing car lovers and collectors from every continent for ten days of prestigious showcases.
Global Air Charters has a long history of flying to the Monterey area. Especially for clients wishing to play Pebble Beach Golf Links and the other world-class golf courses on the peninsula.
Our flight coordinators are standing by to reserve your Gulfstream airframe to Monterey this August. We suggest Monterey Regional Airport (KMRY) for the easiest arrival. Contact us now to begin making arrangements.
There is a multitude of events taking place over the ten days in Monterey, but here are our picks for those that you won’t want to miss:
Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion (August 14–17)
A thrilling event for fans of vintage racing, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion features four days of racing at the legendary Laguna Seca Raceway in Salinas. Watch historic race cars compete in heats that represent each era of motorsports, from pre-war models to more modern machines.
Prancing Ponies Women’s Car Show (August 15)
Since a full week of classic car shows can be heavy on testosterone, we recommend heading down to Carmel-by-the-Sea for a show specifically dedicated to women-owned classic cars. The Prancing Ponies Women’s Car Show will park 200 classic rides on Ocean Avenue in its mission to create more visibility for women in a male-dominated hobby.
While in Carmel-by-the-Sea, we recommend getting a reservation at Michelin Guide favorites. La Bicyclette offers French bistro classics like duck confit and tarte tatin. Or try Aubergine for an inventive, modernist tasting menu backed by a 3,500-bottle wine cellar.
The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering (August 16, 9am–4pm)
Perhaps the finest social gathering of the week, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. It is an exclusive experience for collectors to mingle in a luxury garden party on the greens at Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel.
If lodging in Monterey proper is hard to come by, consider staying down closer to Carmel. The Tickle Pink Inn offers some of the most stunning views of the Big Sur Coastline.
Concorso Italiano (August 17, 10am–3pm)
Billed as the “world’s largest luxury Italian car show”, the Concorso Italiano celebrates every facet of Italian design in autos, culture, and cuisine. See over 1,000 classic Italian cars and motorcycles as you sip on fine Italian wines and enjoy live music at the Bayonet & Black Golf Course in Monterey Bay.
Concours d’Lemons (August 17, 8am–1:30pm)
When you’ve had enough of seeing the most beautiful cars in the world, head over to Seaside to see some of the ugliest. The Concours d’Lemons gathers the most spectacularly deplorable jalopies in the state. They will compete for the coveted “Worst of Show” trophy. Prizes will also be awarded for “This Car Should Have Been a Lawsuit” and “Most Dangerous.”
Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance (August 18, 10:30am–5pm)
The capstone of Monterey Car Week is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This event is held on the 18th fairway of the Pebble Beach Golf Links. It showcases the crème de la crème of classic cars competing for the ultimate Best of Show award of the week. To have any chance of winning here, the car must be immaculate, with a compelling history and an unsurpassed mechanical caliber.
