Spring Training in Arizona: The Billion Dollar Dodgers
Arizona’s Cactus League is played entirely within the Phoenix metropolitan area this year. Baseball fans can easily visit more than one park in a single day. And with some planning, you could even explore every Cactus League ballpark in just a few days.
The biggest story of the offseason was the Los Angeles Dodgers’ spending spree for the services of free agents Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, plus trading for the veteran right-hander Tyler Glasnow. The Dodgers are all in on the 2024 season and the fun will start at Camelback Ranch Stadium in Glendale, right across the river from the Glendale Municipal Airport (KGEU).
We love taking in a spring game at Salt River Fields, where the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies set up camp. Located minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (KPHX), Salt River Fields is situated on the tribal lands of the Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, ensconced in the natural beauty of the Sonoran Desert.
Catch a doubleheader in Mesa: Head to Sloan Park to see the Chicago Cubs and then it’s just three miles down the road to Hohokam Stadium and the Oakland A’s. Suggested airport: Sky Harbor.
Spring Training in Florida: Yankees and Braves are Ascendant
The New York Yankees are doing their best to climb back atop the American League with their offseason signing of San Diego slugger Juan Soto. He and platoon-mate Aaron Judge will start this spring by sending longballs at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. Modeled after Yankee Stadium, Steinbrenner Field is just north of Tampa’s bustling downtown and lavish Riverwalk complex, and on the doorstep of Tampa International Airport (KTPA).
Looking to keep pace with the Dodgers in the National League, the Atlanta Braves bolstered their rotation by acquiring lefty Chris Sale from the Red Sox. He’ll join reigning NL MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. and the rest of the Braves at CoolPark Stadium in Venice, and we like Venice Municipal Airport (KVNC) for an easy arrival.
Catch a doubleheader in Clearwater: The Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies play just 6 miles apart. Suggested airport: St. Pete-Clearwater (KPIE).
