MLB Opener

The baseball trip of a lifetime takes us to Japan this March.

We love the springtime ritual of heading to Florida and Arizona for Spring Training. But there’s one baseball trip on the horizon Building in Tokyo, Japanthat’s even better — seeing MLB’s best teams play in one of the world’s most exciting cities.

The MLB Tokyo Series features the defending World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, taking on the Chicago Cubs. The teams will spend two days (March 15–16) playing exhibition matches against two top Japanese teams, the Hanshin Tigers and the Yomiuri Giants. Then, the Dodgers and the Cubs will face off against each other in two games (March 18–19) to open the 2025 MLB regular season in Chicago.

If you were one of the lucky fans who managed to snag a ticket to the Tokyo Series, contact our flight coordinators to reserve your private jet. Here are some suggestions for what to do while you’re there.

Japanese Stars Shine

Both the Cubs and Dodgers have stellar Japanese talent who are primed to take center stage during the series. The Dodgers will start pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (March 18) in the first game. Roki Sasaki is also likely to start a game after signing for the Dodgers this off-season. He could make his MLB debut on home soil.

The Cubs plan to start Shota Imanaga on the mound in game 1, setting up a duel between two top Japanese talents who made their MLB debuts last season. All the action happens at the Tokyo Dome in the north-central part of town.

Luxury Lodging

We love the unique location of the Palace Hotel Tokyo. Situated moat-side, opposite the Imperial Palace Gardens, it’s a serene and refined retreat offering the finest in Japanese hospitality. It’s routinely ranked as one of the best hotels in the city, and its 10 on-site restaurants and bars are all worthy of acclaim. It’s also located very near the famous Ginza district, in case any high-end retail browsing is on your agenda.

Just blocks away from the Palace Hotel, we also highly recommend staying at the Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi. It offers gorgeous views of the palace and Tokyo’s financial district. Don’t miss the views from its rooftop terrace, or a drink at VIRTÙ. This 60-seat Art Deco space on the 39th floor has a super-luxe menu and impeccably polished service.

Post Game Drinks

After the games, head to Shinjuku City to experience the best bars in a city that takes cocktailing seriously. Bar Albatross was beloved by Anthony Bourdain, and it’s hard not to be enchanted by its red velvet and chandelier-bedecked interior.

For a truly one-of-a-kind cocktail, seek out Bar Benfiddich on the ninth floor of an unassuming Shinjuku building. There you’llfind a 17-seat warren, with no menu, where master bartender Hiroyasu Kayama creates a bespoke cocktail using vintage liqueurs and ingredients from his farm.

Sushi Fix

You can’t spend time in Tokyo without at least one meal of sushi. Head to the Ginza district and choose from one of these two incredible sushi counters. Sushiko Honten is over a century old and serves top-flight nigiri. Sushi Karaku is right next to Ginza Station and serves Edo-style omakase sushi with an emphasis on wine pairings.

Spring Blossoms

Mid-March is just a little bit too early to see Japan’s famous cherry blossoms in bloom. However, Japanese plum trees are flowering by early March and several parks around town hold festivals in their honor. Head to Machida’s Shikisai no Mori Yakushiike Park for the 2025 Plum Festival (through March 16) and see over 250 trees in shades of red and white.
