A-List Celebrities and Cutting-Edge Fashion — It’s May in NYC
This year’s annual Costume Institute Benefit will occur on Monday, May 5th, 2025, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The fundraiser is better known as “fashion’s biggest night” or simply The Met Gala.
This invite-only event calls on the biggest names in entertainment, fashion, business, and politics to strut their stuff on the most scrutinized red carpet of the year. If you were among the lucky invitees, or you’re just spending time in New York City this May, the most stylish way to arrive is aboard a chartered Gulfstream jet.
New York City is one of Global Air Charters’ most frequent destinations. Our trendsetting clients charter there for New York City Fashion Week. NYC’s several executive airports frequently appear on our list of available Empty Leg flights. Our knowledge of each airfield and its services and capabilities will ensure a seamless arrival and connection with ground transportation.
Contact our flight coordinators to reserve your airframe to New York City for the Met Gala. Here’s how to enjoy a fashionable weekend.
Choose Your Arrival
Where you choose to arrive in New York City is largely a function of where you stay. If you have a hotel in Midtown, we like to arrive at Teterboro (KTEB) in New Jersey for a quick commute into the city. If you’re staying in the Hamptons, Long Island MacArthur (KISP) is a convenient airfield.
Let us know your plans, and we’ll recommend the best airfield for you.
The Met Gala
This year’s spring exhibition at the Costume Institute is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which opens May 10. The theme of the annual fundraising gala is closely tied to the exhibition – the dress code for 2025 is “Tailored for You.” This means you can expect some striking bespoke looks from gala co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James (serving as honorary co-chair).
If you need a hotel recommendation near the event, we like The Pierre. This landmark hotel on 5th Avenue has been a paragon of five-star refinement for almost 100 years.
Street Eats Festivals
NYC is famous for food vendors, and they’ll be out in full force this May.
JAPAN Fes is the world’s largest Japanese food festival. Sunday, May 4, 2025, head up to Broadway on the Upper West Side to eat takoyaki, ramen, matcha sweets, and yakisoba from some of NYC’s best.
New York also has a weekly open-air food market that runs all summer, dubbed “Smorgasburg”. Find a variety of world-class street eats at the Oculus at the World Trade Center on Fridays, Marsha P. Johnson State Park in Williamsburg on Saturdays, and Breeze Hill in Prospect Park on Sundays.
Shows and Sports
It’s spring in NYC. Take an hour to walk down the High Line and figure out which cultural institutions you’ll visit that evening.
On Broadway, Nicole Scherzinger has received huge plaudits for her portrayal of Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sunset Boulevard”. Audra McDonald is also starring in the latest revival of “Gypsy”.
If your musical tastes run a little more modern, Charli XCX is bringing her BRAT 2025 area tour to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for a four-night run (April 30–May 4).
In sports action, the New York Yankees are in town, taking on the Tampa Bay Rays (May 2–4) and the San Diego Padres (May 5–7). New York City FC plays Cincinnati FC at Citi Field on May 4. You can also stop by CityPickle in Central Park and play pickleball on one of 14 courts set up on Wollman Rink.
