The spring travel season is almost here. These beautiful locations in and around the United States are perfect for a holiday weekend.
The demand for our fleet of Gulfstream aircraft surges every spring with a healthy mix of business and vacation travel. We encourage our clients to get ahead of the demand curve and lock in a jet for their Memorial Day getaway.
For many of us, Memorial Day is synonymous with sunshine, family time, and being near the water. We take immense pride in offering our clients every conceivable destination right from their backyard. Here are some Memorial Day vacation destinations you might want to check out this year:
Amelia Island, Florida
There are many beautiful places to visit in Florida, but we wanted to highlight this lesser-known gem. Amelia Island is rich in history, with a beautiful coastline, recreation, and dining.
Take the whole family horseback riding along beautiful coastlines and beaches. Amelia Island Horseback Riding has been operating since 1993, and their excursions are highly rated.
We recommend strolling in the Fernandina Historic District. This historic downtown is a great spot to explore around lunchtime, where you can find boutique restaurants to enjoy the local cuisine and a craft beer or two. History buffs will have plenty to learn about in the area — it’s the only place in the United States to have had eight different rulers throughout its history!
One of the best accommodations on Amelia Island is the Omni Resort which comes with golf packages at Oak Marsh Golf Course. If you choose to stay elsewhere, it’s still an excellent course to play. Amelia Island has several other exquisite courses to test even the best golfers.
The Bahamas
The Bahamas is an ideal destination for Memorial Day or any day. The experience you’re looking for could dictate which island in the Bahamas you choose; that’s what makes this such a great spot to spend the long weekend.
We love the Exuma chain because it offers rugged natural Caribbean beauty and some of the best luxury accommodations. If you want to swim with cute piglets in the turquoise water of Big Major Cay, snorkel in tranquil bays, then go back to your hotel and enjoy a 5-star meal, this is your spot for a getaway like none other!
You may not have heard of Acklins and Crooked Islands; the secret is no longer safe with us. This location is for those who love seclusion and activities like boating, fishing, SCUBA diving, and photography. Acklins and Crooked Islands are as remote as it gets in The Bahamas. While still offering some of the creature comforts we all enjoy while on vacation. To get here, you must charter a boat or a smaller aircraft from one of The Bahamas’ larger airports.
Cape Cod, Massachusetts
The Northeast US has much to offer visitors during the early summer months. Cape Cod is an absolute jewel of a destination with gorgeous beaches, historical sites, and intriguing experiences for vacation travelers. Cape Cod is a perfect place for a Memorial Day getaway if you want something more eclectic. And it makes the ideal starting point for your holiday weekend if you plan to visit or stay in Martha’s Vineyard.
Here are some of our favorite places to stay in Cape Cod:
- Crowne Pointe Inn & Spa is located in the heart of Provincetown on the outer cape, where authenticity and charm can be found around every corner. The outer cape is the spot to see Cape Cod’s most picturesque lighthouses, among other activities like fine dining and shopping.
- Wequassett Resort and Golf Club is our favorite resort on the lower cape for many reasons, including their private sailboat charters, kids’ activities, golf, and beautiful day spa. You can choose to stay in a private house, your own cottage, or a luxury signature suite. We have found the cottages or private houses are the best options for families. Access to Cape Cod National Golf Club is a major selling point for this resort; this course is a must for any serious golfer.
- Chatham Inn is known for exceptional elegance and stay enhancements, like vintage biplane sightseeing and an outstanding culinary experience. The hotel itself is thoughtfully appointed, comfortable, and elegant. A four-day weekend spent here will leave you feeling rejuvenated with a new appreciation for culinary arts and elegant spaces.
