See the best of the British capital during this heart-pounding competition

The London Marathon weaves from Greenwich to St. James Park this year on Sunday, April 27, 2025. One of the world’s big six marathons, this iconic race is the perfect chance to see the sights in London on a warm spring day.

Global Air Charters is proud to fly racers and spectators to the biggest running competitions in the world. We’ve chartered to marathons in Chicago, New York, and Boston. Our fleet of ultra-long-range airframes makes transatlantic travel easy.

Names to Watch

The London Marathon brings out the biggest names in the endurance sporting world. The Paris Olympic champion, Tamirat Tola (ETH), london cityscapetakes on Eliud Kipchoge (KEN), who is chasing his fifth victory in London. Last year’s winner, Alexander Mutiso Munyao (KEN), will surely make a run at a repeat.

Leading the way on the women’s side is Ruth Chepngetich (KEN), who set the world record for women’s marathon of 2:09:56 last year in Chicago. She’ll battle Sifan Hassan (NED), the gold medalist in Paris, and Peres Jepchirchir (KEN), the returning champion in London.

The Best Vantage Points

The marathon route shows off the best of London with ample viewing opportunities across its 26 miles. These are a few of our favorite spots:

Cutty Sark (Mile 7): The famous tea-transporting ship is the site of one of the most raucous groups of spectators. It’s an easy walk from the starting lines and offers a shortcut to the second half. Take the Greenwich Foot Tunnel under the river and you’ll come out near Mile 17 and Millwall Park.

Canada Water (Miles 9 and 11): If you time it just right, you can see your runner twice here – on either side of the small lake. Once they’ve passed,  take it easy and stroll over to Bermondsey. This district has breweries, distilleries, and other artisanal food purveyors. Save yourlondon bridge appetite for the vendors at the Maltby Street Market. Open Sundays from 11 am to 4 pm, it’s a dream collection of street food, from dumplings to empanadas, with an oyster bar and a wine shop.

Canary Wharf (Mile 18): The Tower Bridge will be slammed with spectators all day long, so unless you want to stay in that melee, we suggest heading up a few miles to Canary Wharf. It’s not usually a tourist area, which makes it easier to get right on the barricades and cheer on your runner when they need it most.

Westminster (Mile 25): This is your viewing spot if you want classic UK scenery. Watch runners trudge past the London Eye, Big Ben, and the Houses of Parliament on their home stretch to the finish line at Buckingham Palace.

Sunday Roasts

After the race, you’ll want to find a classic British pub for a Sunday roast. Try The Devonshire near Piccadilly Circus. They pour a proper pint of Guinness in their downstairs pub and serve stunning roasts in the dining room upstairs.

You might opt instead for the lauded game and offal dishes at the landmark restaurant St. John. We also love the Lyonnaise-style meats and wine list at the homey bistro Bouchon Racine.

Get Jazzed

While you’re in London, race weekend is also this year’s Brick Lane Jazz Festival (April 25–27, 2025). See the UK’s brightest talents in new soul, electronic, and other underground forms at the Truman Brewery and other surrounding venues.
