La Scala 2025 Season
Travel to one of the world’s most famous theaters to see Verdi, Wagner, and much more this season in Milan
Every year on the feast day of Saint Ambrose, December 7th, Milan’s most famous theater opens for the season. La Scala has been the sight of some of classical music’s most famous performances and premieres. From Toscanini to Callas, all the greats have cemented their place in history on this stage.
You can count yourself lucky (or well connected) if you secured tickets to this season’s opening night soiree. But take heart if you didn’t — the theater is waging an exciting 2025 season. There will likely be an incredible performance no matter when you happen to be in town.
Milan is a popular destination with Global Air Charters customers. Earlier this year, we arrived for the Italian Grand Prix in Monza and Milan Fashion Week in September. Milan is also a popular jumping off point for Alpine locations like Lake Como and Lugano, Switzerland.

La Scala Opening Night
Teatro alla Scala is located in the absolute center of Milan. The theater sits on Piazza della Scala, across from Palazzo Marino, Milan’s city hall.
Opening night, called Il Primo, is one of the most prestigious and exclusive events in the world of opera. It’s attended by local patrons and international opera lovers, dressed in their finest, gathering in the golden glow of its famous theater boxes.
This year, La Scala has chosen to open with La Forza del Destino, a lesser-known work by Giuseppi Verdi. They’ll stage Verdi again later in the season, with Falstaff taking the stage from January 16–February 7.
2024-2025 Season Highlights
Wagner fans will have two opportunities to see portions of his iconic Ring cycle at La Scala this season. Die Walküre (The Valkyrie) will run from February 5–23, and later, Siegfried from June 6–21.
Puccini’s dramatic and heartbreaking Tosca will be staged starting in March. This season will also host a world premier. La Scala commissioned the contemporary Italian composer Francesco Filidei for an opera based on Umberto Eco’s novel “The Name of the Rose.”
There are two great ballets on offer this season as well. If you’re there just after the holidays, The Nutcracker will still be on the La Scala stage through mid-January. In April, Edvard Grieg’s Norwegian epic Peer Gynt will bring the Mountain King to Milan.
Stylish Stays
La Scala is next door to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a shopping center home to all of Italy’s prized luxury brands. The gallery is a stunning 19th-century arcade with vaulted iron and glass ceilings.
The rest of Milan’s best shopping takes place just east of La Scala in the Quadrilatero della Moda. The neighborhood is named for the four prestigious streets that form its boundaries. Inside these avenues, you’ll find several posh pedestrian alleys and high-end boutiques.
The area is also home to some of the finest five-star hotels in Milan. The Four Seasons Hotel Milan and Mandarin Oriental Milan are two of our favorites.
But if you’re looking to relax in true Italian luxury, the nearby Armani Hotel is a great choice. The property conveys the signature style and aesthetic of the famous fashion designer, and the premium suites have sweeping views of the Duomo and town center.
