The college football season culminates with a slate of bowl games in ideal destinations for winter vacations
It’s been a chaotic year for college football. We’ve seen powerhouse schools falter and underdogs overperform. The first installment of the 12-team playoff (CFP) is looming. And all of the excitement and uncertainty will come to a head this December with a parade of games to settle all the scores.
Even if your team didn’t make it to the postseason, a college bowl game is the perfect excuse to spend a few days in the warmth of a destination city. We think these five bowl games will not only deliver a great football game but a great location to visit after the whistle blows.

Here are five bowl games worth traveling to this season:
Myrtle Beach Bowl, December 23 – Brooks Stadium, Conway, South Carolina
The fifth annual Myrtle Beach Bowl is one of the many holiday events planned in this gorgeous coastal Carolina resort town. While you’re there, take part in two other Myrtle Beach holiday traditions that light up the night. The Great Christmas Light Show is a two-mile drive through North Myrtle Beach Park, decked with over two million lights. See over 500 holiday displays and end with s’mores and hot chocolate in Santa’s Village. You can see Brookgreen Gardens similarly illuminated during the Nights of a Thousand Candles.
Hawai’i Bowl, December 24 – Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex, Honolulu, Hawai’i
You probably don’t need an excuse to visit Hawai’i over the holidays, but we’ll give you one regardless. The Hawai’i Bowl always features a festive atmosphere and ideal football weather.
And you can catch even more college athletics while you’re on Oahu. The Diamond Head Classic is an eight-team NCAA basketball invitational tournament held December 22–25. All month long, check out the events associated with Honolulu City Lights, a celebration with parades, holiday displays, food vendors, and more.
Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, December 31 – Camping World Stadium, Orlando, Florida
The Citrus Bowl usually hosts two big-name schools. This year, it’s a showdown between the best teams from the Big Ten and SEC that didn’t make the CFP playoffs. They’ll both have something to prove to the selection committee, so it should be a dynamite contest.
If you’re going to Orlando for the game, bring the whole family to ring in a magical 2025. The area’s several theme parks are all hosting special New Year’s Eve events.
Bahamas Bowl, January 4 – Thomas A. Robinson Stadium, Nassau, Bahamas
The Bahamas Bowl is one of the final games of the college football season. It’s a clash between Conference USA and the Mid-American Conference. And by January, chilly Midwesterners will be jumping at the chance to visit Paradise Island.
We think the Bahamas are among the best islands for a holiday vacation. The crowds will be smaller and the weather will be just as pleasant as it will be during Spring Break. Winter is the dry season in the Bahamas — a great time to snorkel in Andros Barrier Reef.
Capital One Orange Bowl, January 9 – Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, Florida
As one of the two CFP semifinals, the Capital One Orange Bowl will feature two of the best teams in the country. Legends from Joe Namath to Tua Tagovailoa have won this game, so head to Miami to see history in the making.
While you’re there, indulge in a food tour of the city — at least hit Calle Ocho for a sanguich. Then get into the groove at the South Beach Jazz Festival, January 9–12.
