Northern Georgia is more than just golf. These three locales showcase the best of the Southeast.
If you’re among the lucky few who secured tickets to the 2025 Masters Tournament, congratulations! Augusta National Golf Club is one of the game’s most sanctified grounds, home to many of the greatest moments in golf history.
But there’s so much more to see than just one golf course. If you charter a private jet to Augusta, you can organize your arrival and departure to plan a bonus excursion in the area.
Global Air Charters is passionate about golf travel. Our clients choose us to see tournaments like the HSBC Championship in Dubai and the FedEx Cup Championship playoffs.
Our ultra-long-range Gulfstream airframes also have loads of cargo space, so they’re perfect for a group golfing weekend. We’ve chartered to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama, the sand hills of Pinehurst in North Carolina, and the hallowed seashore of St. Andrews.

Lake Oconee, Georgia (90-minute drive)
Midway between Atlanta and Augusta, Lake Oconee is one of the recreation capitals of Georgia. It’s a popular spot for boating and fishing, with locals raving about the striped bass found in the lake’s many slim alcoves. If you’re not an angler, we’d recommend chartering a pontoon to explore the seemingly endless shoreline.
If you feel like staying the night, the Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee is the most luxurious resort in the area. They have several options for lakeside dining on-site, from steakhouse fare to poolside sandwiches. They also have five championship golf courses, and there are several more fabulous links in the area, so don’t forget your clubs.
Athens, Georgia (90-minute drive)
Home to the University of Georgia, Athens is known for its music scene. Legendary bands like R.E.M., Widespread Panic, Drive-By Truckers, Of Montreal, and the B-52s all formed here. Catch a show at the 40 Watt Club where established acts and exciting up-and-comers flock to its iconic stage.
Take an hour for a relaxing stroll at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. This 300-plus-acre reserve is home to themed gardens, nature trails, and a decorative arts museum. Then visit one of Athens’ famous breweries to wind down — we suggest Creature Comforts Brewing’s downtown taproom.
There’s great golfing here as well. The University of Georgia Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design and is one of the highest-rated public courses in the state.
Aiken, South Carolina (30-minute drive)
Across the border into South Carolina, Aiken is a suburb of Augusta that delivers on Southern charm. It was voted No. 1 in “The South’s Best Small Towns 2018” by Southern Living for its historic homes, leisurely pace, and unique local businesses.
The town is proud of its horse training history. Several championship horses have been trained in Aiken, and they’re immortalized at the Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. Walk through Hopelands Gardens, a park shaded by century-old oaks and perfumed by azaleas. If you’re staying the night, The Willcox is the best hotel in town its restaurant is just as exceptional.
