Afterward, take a ferry to M+ in the West Kowloon Cultural District, one of the world’s largest museums dedicated to modern visual culture. Their ambitious mandate and stirring collection of modern creativity across all media make it a singular example of the future of art museums.
We also adore the Hong Kong Museum of Art. The city’s very first public art museum has grown into a caretaker of 18,000 items that showcase Hong Kong’s cultural connections with Asia and the world at large. Don’t miss their special exhibition of Cézanne and Renoir.
Street Eats
To maximize your gallery-viewing hours, you’ll do as the locals do and find a tiny shop for a speedy bowl of noodles or rice for lunch. We know three spots for the best casual eats in the city.
Kwan Kee Claypot Rice is said to be the best clay pot in town. Get the pork and egg or Chinese sausage versions and savor a layer of crispy rice crackling in the hot stone bowls. Arrive earlier than you want to eat — there’s always a line, but it moves fast and it’s worth it.
Mak Man Kee might have the best dumplings in a town full of them. Their classic pork and chive dumplings and fried egg noodles are tops. This is the perfect no-frills shop for the fastest noodle lunch.
We also can’t resist the roasted meats at Po Kee BBQ. Get the crispy roasted duck noodles or char siu pork loaded with ginger scallion sauce.
Sevens Heaven
While you’re in town for Art Basel, there’s one other exhibition that we highly recommend. The Hong Kong Rugby Sevens tournament (March 28-30, 2025) brings together the world’s finest men’s and women’s national rugby teams. Watch Team USA Women with Olympic standout, Ilona Maher, make another dramatic run against this world-class field.
