Formula 1 returns to Austin for the most fan-friendly grand prix of the year
The United States Grand Prix has a distinctly different feel from the other Formula 1 races. Experience the party of the F1 season on October 18–20, 2024 at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas.
Since the first grand prix at COTA in 2012, this race has become an annual favorite among F1 fans. The grounds have an electric atmosphere, and the city of Austin has a vibrant energy that goes well into the early hours.

Here are our tips for making the most of your F1 weekend in Texas:
Arriving in Style
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (KAUS) offers the easiest arrival for the United States Grand Prix. The airport is about 20 minutes from downtown Austin and is even closer to COTA.
Your Race Day Experience
Drivers at COTA must contend with one of Formula 1’s most demanding tracks. It is a unique blend of high-speed straights and technical corners, with significant elevation changes throughout the circuit. This undulating track showcases the diverse skills the top drivers need to be victorious.
The track is best known for its signature Turn 1, a sharp uphill left-hand corner that offers some of the best sight lines in F1. It’s the most likely point on the track to witness dramatic overtakes as drivers battle for position.
Other great spots for viewing include Turns 15 and 16, where drivers navigate a complex series of corners before heading back onto the straight. The Stadium Section on those turns offers the best up-close views of the action.
There are also several grassy hills and grandstand seating throughout the course. There are prime spots to be found all over the circuit.
VIP Packages
To elevate your Grand Prix experience, COTA offers several VIP packages. The Paddock Club is your spot for luxury hospitality. These box seats above Turn 19 come with world-class food and drinks, plus exclusive track tours and access to the paddock area.
COTA offers several other hospitality packages. These may include special seating, meet-and-greets with F1 personalities, pit lane walks, and behind-the-scenes access.
Austin BBQ
If you come to Austin for any reason, you can’t leave without tasting its world-famous smoked meats.
You might have heard about Franklin Barbecue, and we have no qualms about queuing up there early in the morning. But if there’s one shop with brisket to rival Franklin, it’s la Barbecue. No order there is complete without shells and cheese, jalapeno sausage, and homemade pickles. Place an online order so you don’t have to wait in the line outdoors.
LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue is another great option. It eschews some of the traditional meats (brisket only on Saturdays, no pork ribs). Instead, they have tender whole hog, spicy chorizo, and excellent barbacoa on Sundays. The underrated gem on the menu is the L&L Burger made from brisket trimmings.
See Live Music After the Race
The capital city of Texas is one of the greatest live music cities in America, if not the world. It’s an experience just to stroll the streets downtown and let your ears decide your next destination.
We like Antone’s for blues and soul, The Continental Club for roots and rockabilly, and the Mohawk for punk and indie rock. The White Horse is a classic honky tonk. The Scoot Inn also draws some big names to its outdoor patio stage.
