Wimbledon 2024
Plan a Summer Getaway to London Now to See the World-Famous Wimbledon Tournament
The best tennis players in the world will once again descend on Southeast London in early July to compete for one of the oldest and most prestigious titles in the game.
London is a frequent destination for Global Air Charters in the summertime. Our clients spend the season chartering flights from the United States to the many sun-soaked European destinations for an extended holiday.
We think Wimbledon is the perfect opportunity to see the best that London has to offer. The weeks during the tournament enjoy some of Britain’s best weather of the year. Many other festivals and events are held around the same time.
There’s no better way to arrive relaxed and refreshed for two weeks of marathon tennis than by chartering a private jet. Contact our flight brokers to start planning your London holiday. Here’s what you need to know about attending Wimbledon.
Arriving at Wimbledon 2024
This year the tournament will be held from Monday, July 1 to Sunday, July 14 in its traditional home, The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
You may choose to charter into Heathrow Airport (EGLL), London’s main and busiest airport. However, you may find it more convenient to arrive at Farnborough Airport (EGLF). Despite being further from Wimbledon, Farnborough caters to private business traffic and its service and amenities are suitably world-class.
If you’re staying in the center of London, the tennis grounds can be reached by taking the District Line on the Underground. You’ll have good luck getting off at Southfields or Wimbledon stations. Shuttles run continuously from either station transporting patrons to the grounds.
Where to Eat in Wimbledon
The tradition at the All England Club is to eat strawberries and cream with a Pimm’s or champagne. While you should certainly do that, Wimbledon also offers several other sit-down or take-away dining options for patrons. Order a full brasserie, pizza-by-the-slice, or picnic baskets in advance if you like. Enjoy your meal on the many lawns and gardens scattered across the club grounds.
Outside the tennis club, you’ll find many charming pubs and eateries in Wimbledon Village. If you want to eat where the players eat, head to Maison St. Cassien. This Mediterranean and Lebanese restaurant has hosted many of the world’s top players since opening in 1998. The café is also a favorite of home-grown Wimbledon champion, Andy Murray. It’s great for a coffee and pastry on your way to the tournament in the morning or hummus and shawarma in the evening.
If you’re looking for a more elegant dinner to unwind after a day of action, we suggest The Ivy Café for a menu of British classics like shepherd’s pie and smoked haddock.
Living it up in London
Wimbledon coincides with BST Hyde Park, a multi-weekend collection of international headliners playing outdoor programs to huge festival crowds. This year you can catch Morgan Wallen (July 4), Robbie Williams (July 6), Shania Twain (July 7), Stevie Nicks featuring Brandi Carlisle (July 12), or Kylie Minogue (July 13) while you’re in town for tennis.
For a more sedate affair, the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival (July 2–7) is everything you can hope for in a summer garden party. Expect to enjoy tons of flowers in bloom, talks by master gardeners, finger foods to enjoy, and lots of exhibitors showcasing the latest in gardening, interior design, and other handmade crafts.
You can always head to a show in London’s famous West End. One special theater experience not to miss is a show at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theater. This secluded amphitheater delivers charming, intimate performances. They’ll be staging The Secret Garden during the run of Wimbledon this year.
